Beaufort County’s deputy administrator will no longer be performing double duty as county attorney.

Charleston lawyer Tom Keaveny started work Monday as the new county attorney, taking over for deputy county administrator Josh Gruber.

Gruber, who had served as county attorney since August 2011, was tapped as deputy county administrator in September after former deputy administrator Bryan Hill took the top post in James City County, Va.

Keaveny has over 30 years of legal experience and is a certified mediator and dispute resolution specialist, Gruber said.

Keaveny has spent his career practicing along the South Carolina coast, primarily litigation in Charleston and Beaufort County.
