Filing for [Bluffton] town election begins next month

It’s almost election time in Bluffton, as the mayor’s seat and two other seats on Town Council will be up for grabs on Nov. 3.

Filing for the election begins opens Aug. 6 at noon and closes Sept. 4 at noon.

Mayor Lisa Sulka will be up for a third term, while Councilman Ted Huffman and Councilwoman Karen Lavery will be up for second terms. The four-year terms are townwide and nonpartisan.

A runoff, if-necessary would be held Nov. 17.

Anyone wishing to file as a candidate for mayor or council may do so at Town Hall, 20 Bridge Street. The filing fee is $150 for mayor and $100 for council.

Each candidate must also file an electronic South Carolina Ethics Commission Statement of Economic Interests form, which can be found at ethics.sc.gov.

Anyone wishing to register to vote in the election must do so by Oct. 3 at either of the Beaufort County Board of Elections and Voter Registration offices.

The Beaufort office at 15 John Galt Road will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Bluffton office at 61B Ulmer Road will be open Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-4 p.m.

All voting precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
