Curtis Loftis SC State Treasurer on a Mission

Curtis Loftis

Curtis Loftis was a guest speaker at our October 15 Beaufort County Republican Party Executive Committee meeting. I intended to post an article on his talk at the time but lost my round “to-it”. Apologies.

Today I received an email from the Treasurer and find he has added a new project to his already full plate. So perhaps it was best that I delayed and bring it up now.

His talk at the meeting was on the poor performance and high costs levied on the private equity and hedge fund investments overseen by South Carolina’s $30 billion Retirement System Investment Commission and the need for transparency and reform. He also talked about his office and its responsibility to make certain that unclaimed property held for individuals be returned to rightful owners.

Now it seems that Life Insurance companies have been lobbying the SC Senate to make it harder for people to claim death benefits. Their efforts have apparently worked. Today, January 13, 2016, legislation was introduced in the SC Senate by Senator Wes Hayes of York County to do the bidding of life insurance companies.

The investment of retirement funds, reclaimed property, and insurance legislation are complex topics that can’t be covered in the space available here. But Treasurer Curtis Loftis is on a difficult mission and could use your support.

You can find information on all of these at here and here.
