Laura Sterling Challenges Clyburn for the US House of Representatives SC District 6

US Congressional District 6 includes a part of Beaufort County and has James Clyburn as its Representative. This year Republican Laura Sterling is challenging him for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Clyburn (D SC) has been in office for 23 years and that’s too long. It may partially explain why he has become completely immune to reality. He recently said that the Orlando terrorist attack by an Islamist radical claiming allegiance to ISIS had nothing to do with ISIS.

According to Clyburn the Orlando attack is “about guns in America”. His solution is to eviscerate “this Second Amendment” and the principle of due process by adding anyone on the No-Fly list or the Terrorist-Watch list to the background check system to prohibit them from purchasing a gun.

That sounds good until you think about it for more than two seconds. People are placed on those lists by unnamed bureaucrats for undetermined reasons and there is no way to get off those lists if you should discover you are on one of them.

Initial reports are that Clyburn who has ignored his district (as well as reality) for years is facing significant dissatisfaction among constituents. Let’s hope Laura can end Clyburn’s stint in the House.

Dem. Rep. On Orlando Shooting: ‘This Is Not About ISIS. … This Is About Guns In America’

From the Daily Caller: By Steve Guest, 06/14/2016

In the wake of the terrorist attack in Orlando by a man who pledged his allegiance to ISIS, Democratic Rep. James Clyburn said, “this is not about ISIS. … this is about guns in America and whether or not we’re going to have some kind of moderation to this Second Amendment.”

Appearing on “MSNBC Live” with Tamron Hall on Tuesday, Clyburn said, “If you’re on the no-fly list, you ought not be able to buy a gun. … The same thing is true of people convicted of hate crimes. We ought not allow them to buy guns. This gentleman, it is now being revealed, had a lot of hate, and it seems that some of it was self-hate.”

“And consequently this is not about ISIS, this is not about any kind of foreign terror. This is about guns in America and whether or not we’re going to have some kind of moderation to this Second Amendment just as we have to the First Amendment,” he said. “None of us believe that our First Amendment rights are unfettered and that’s why the Supreme Court said you are not going to be allowed to yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theater. Now, the same kind of moderation ought to be on this Second Amendment.”

“Yes, you can buy a firearm, but let’s have a reasonable background check that is completed before you’re allowed to do so,” Clyburn added.
