Sanford Cosponsors Securing America’s Future Act

February 07, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Mark Sanford signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 4760, the Securing America’s Future Act, which is a border security and immigration reform bill. This legislation was introduced by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), and there are currently 87 Republican cosponsors.

Rep. Sanford released the following statement:

“I think one of the big issues with regards to immigration reform has been striking the right balance between legalization and enforcement. Back in 1986, amnesty was offered to three million illegal workers with the promise that enforcement and border security would come later. It didn’t.

“Right now, there is an ongoing political tug-of-war between legalization and border security. There should certainly be room to create a path to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) participants, but in order to avoid a recurring illegal immigration conversation in the future, Congress should be open to the idea of solving the underlying border security and enforcement issue.

“We’re both a nation of laws and of immigrants, and both traditions should be respected. I believe that this bill achieves a good balance between legalization and enforcement. Accordingly, I’m proud to be a cosponsor of the Securing America’s Future Act.”

Among other things, the Securing America’s Future Act will:

Authorize border wall construction

End chain migration & the visa lottery program

Create a workable agricultural guest worker program

Withhold funding from sanctuary cities

Provide a legislative solution for current DACA beneficiaries

Make E-Verify Mandatory
