Beaufort County GOP Chairman
Jim was born outside Boston, MA. and raised in Scituate, a small fishing village situated about half way between Boston and Plymouth, MA. on the Atlantic Ocean.
Jim attended public schools and played various sports with his older brother and sister Tim and Mary Lou.
After High School Jim attended Syracuse University graduating with a BS degree in Business.
After several years working in Buffalo, NY he enlisted in the Air Force attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. While in the Air Force he earned his Master’s Degree in Business.
After a 30 plus year career, primarily in the Automotive Industry, Jim retired in 2002 as President of Mann & Hummel Automotive living outside Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Jim and his wife Trish are long time boaters and in 2006 did what is referred to as “The Great Loop” circumnavigating the Eastern half of the USA by water in their new 42’ North Pacific Pilot House trawler, Great Expectations. They completed the “Loop” in 2008 and spent the next three years cruising up and down the East Coast following the warm weather.
It was during these years that they fell in love with Beaufort staying at the Downtown and or Dataw Marina. In 2010 they purchased property in Bull Point Plantation and commenced construction on their new home in 2012. During this time they relocated from Michigan to the Beaufort area so, they could oversee the construction of their new home completed in 2013.
Since relocating to the Beaufort area Jim has become a member of the Federation of Republican Men’s Club and served as Treasurer, Vice Chairman and currently Chairman of the Beaufort County Republican Party.
He enjoys being a Grandparent having three Grandchildren, all boys, and a fourth on the way. Hopefully, a girl. Trish and Jim are extremely pleased with their decision to relocate to the Low Country and with their involvement in the Republican Party.
Richard is a retired CPA who has held just about every corporate financial position as well as Chief Operating Officer for small to medium sized companies. Currently serves as Treasurer for the Hospice Community Thrift Store and his POA.
Answers to both Richard and Jim because people assume Jim, the author, blogger and TV talking head must have the same name as his father.
He & his wife, Peggy lived in Hilton Head Plantation for over 10 years & now live in Bluffton. Both are active in Republican activities. He enjoys competing for the title of the area’s worst golfer and writing letter to the Packet and updating his Twitter account daily.
In September 2009 was named Volunteer of the Month by the Town of Hilton Head and the Packet had named him a Very Opinioned Person (VOP).

Jim Dickson was born and raised New Mexico, attended college in Texas and Ohio, served in the United States Navy Reserve during the Veit Nam conflect. After release from active duty he joined The General Tire & Rubber Co. of Akron Ohio, as a Management Trainee where he enjoyed a 35 year career, retireing in 2001 as Senior Directior of Sales & Marketing for the Commerical Division of Contintential – General Tire, one of the world’s largest manufactures of tires and automotive parts.
Jim and his wife Susan discoverd the Low Country while living in Atlanta Ga. in 1979, fell in love with the area, and purchased property on St. Helena Island that same year. After living in several cities and states around the country Jim retired in 2001 and he and Susan decided to build a home at Dataw Island South Carolina in 2003, where they currently reside.
Jim has a life time of involvement in Republican activities since reading Barry Goldwater’s book “The Conscience of a Conservative” when he was a junior in college in 1963. Over the years he and Susan have been involved with local Republican groups where ever they have lived, as time and careers would alow.
Since moving to Beaufort County he has served as President of the Beaufort Federation of Republican Men, Preisdent of the Beaufort Area Republican Club, Vice Chairman and State Executive Committeeman of the Beaufort Count Republican Party. Jim is currenty serving a second term as State Executiveman, and remains an active member of the Beaufort Federation of Republican Men. His wife Susan served four years as President of the Beaufort Republican Woman’s Club, as a Regional Director of the South Carolina Federation of Republican Women, and was named State Republican Woman of the Year for that group in 2012. She remains active in both Republican Women’s groups.
